Business

An Education in law is also great training for would-be entrepreneurs. Owning a business is hard, with lots of things to think about and endless factors to consider. Having a solid grounding in the laws of your municipality and the state in which you reside can help you enormously when starting your own business. Whether it is dealing with local zoning laws, so you can operate a home-based business or heading off lawsuits through the smart use of insurance and contracts, the legal training you receive will serve you well.

Education

Learning about the law will also give you the groundwork you need to pass that knowledge on to the next generation. Many teachers at law schools are also successful attorneys, and a career in teaching can be a wonderful career. Attorneys at CPR Law often do medical cases and having a background in medicine or health can also be a starting point for many legal jobs.

Legal Fields

A grounding in legal concepts and an education in law can also prepare you for employment in related fields. Paralegals and other professionals are increasingly in demand, and that is good news for those with the right qualifications. Some paralegals work on their own, preparing wills, contracts, and documents for their clients. Others work in law offices, helping attorneys review contracts, prepare for trial and brief witnesses. No matter what you want to do or what career goals you plan to pursue, an education in law can be a valuable addition to your training and qualifications. Teaching strategies for modern classrooms

Teaching strategies for modern classrooms

Teaching strategies for modern classrooms

As the world evolves, the need of new teaching methods is becoming more and more inevitable. Clearly, today’s students are no longer the same audience, as that of the traditional system of education. The current student generation is working on a different level, with different pace and completely altered approaches. Education as we know is no longer existent. The gap between modern students and teachers is not shrinking, but growing almost daily. Why? Because schools still base their teaching on outdated strategies. The social media and technology are developing and spreading quite fast and in result, the less focused students become on their education. It was only twenty years ago that tablets, laptops and iPhones did not even exist. Right now, students are disturbed by these devices almost all the time. This is why educators must try to understand how to best meet the needs of modern students and do that while taking their attention away from video games and social media. Change is now inevitable, especially since something as important as education of future leaders depends on it. This is why we have uncovered the most important teaching strategies that educators need to apply in their modern classrooms.

Modern classroom and outdated strategies

If you wish to teach a student something in today’s world, you have to be a modern teacher. Working with outdated strategies and principles on modern students is a failure to start with. As the world moves, so must the education. The main task of a teacher is to understand how their students think. Understanding the modern values and seeing what needs to be done in order to share some knowledge is the first and most important step in creating a good learning environment. Every teacher has been taught history of educating, most common teaching techniques and most successful strategies. However, as the world moves, so should we.

Modern students and ignorant educators

Being aware of the incompatibilities between the past educational systems and the ‘digital era’ of today, is highly important, but this means nothing if the teachers are ignorant towards changing. The main reason why teaching strategies have not adapted to the modern students yet is because the majority of educators simply remain ignorant of their environment. Of course, every teacher has gone through extensive education in order to best implement methods of teaching, but should they rely solely on the traditional strategies? The majority of educators have received their professional education and training years before the technology was so widespread, so it is clear that their profession is still in need of developing. After all, the main purpose of the educational system is to make students learn and this cannot be effectively accomplished if educators reject adaptation. Students did not have the recourses and access to information before like they do now and almost everything they learned came from their teachers. Right now, teachers also need to learn from their students. Why? Because as the world moves and education remains intact, students start seeing education as something they need to pass, not to learn. The amount of information is now so accessible to them, that they no longer see traditional learning teachers as their role-models.

The mindset of a modern teacher

Being a teacher in nowadays world is a difficult task, mostly because of the loss of the old techniques educators are so used to. As the mindset of students changes, so must that of educators. And not only that this does not sound easy, but it really is not. Changing the mindset to one of a modern teacher is a challenging job, but an extremely important one. The internet is all modern students can think about when it comes to information, so you cannot keep adapting your ‘defensive mode’ every time a student brings up different ideas from those of traditional learning. The internet is not going away. On the opposite, it will keep changing and developing faster and faster every day. This is why teachers need to adopt and learn accordingly. After all, there is no such profession whose learning ends with getting a degree.

3 tips for dealing with modern students

If you want to change your mindset to one of a modern teacher, you have to be more open minded. Being ready to adopt is the only way that you will fit in today’s educational system and make your students respect you.
  • Stop Focusing on Control
In the traditional learning setting, teachers were focusing on control. This is how they maintained their position of most intelligent in the classroom and a role-model for the students. Now students are different. Controlling them is no longer an option and if you want to make them listen and learn, you must try to influence them instead. Students need to feel good in the classroom. Having a modern teacher that promotes advanced, modern strategies is the only way to achieve this. If you manage to do that, you will have the influence you so need.
  • Grasp the Technology
Technology is something you should include in your classes. Instead of using solely books and other traditional methods, opt for some interesting video, an online presentation or other modern learning techniques. In this way, you will not only make learning easier for your students, but will include something they find very dear to their everyday learning. And we all know how important students’ interest is when it comes to successful teaching.
  • Guide Students to Important Content
Right now students have excessive access to information, but not all of it is true or relevant. Letting them know that the material you provide them with is filtered and relevant is highly important. Your main role in terms of technology is not to let students be misguided by it.

Conclusion

Learning to adopt and implement modern strategies in today’s education is not something that will come easily. Traditional teaching is so long gone, that teachers already struggle with finding the right way to reach their students. If you wish to do so, you must change in order to preserve the classroom’s functionality. The job of every teacher is not only to teach, but to learn too. Adapting to the new environment is the only way to preserve the teacher-student relationship. At the end, if that is gone because teachers refuse to adapt, how will the teachers to their main job – teach?   About the Author:

Resolving stereotypes regarding online education

Resolving Stereotypes Regarding Online Education Acceptance of online education and degree for a common man is still like a question mark. Many people believe that those who are not eligible for admission in any good traditional university or college usually go for online education but it’s not right at all because performance graph of online degree holders shows that they are equally good as a normal student. There are a lot of myths or rumors regarding online degree system and students. Before claiming anything people should look at the dropout rates of students at colleges around the world and the reasons. For so many such students online education is a good option as they can manage their studies along with their life activities. Here are some facts to dissolve the stereotypes regarding online education so that students can feel comfortable while considering online degree option. Online Education is Easier than Regular College Classes The course structure of online degrees is designed under supervisions of highly educated and experienced personals who experience regular college as well. The course plans are arranged to fulfill the international standards of any specific degree. To get an online degree it is mandatory to finish your homework and the assignments in a mentioned time to get scored on them. The criteria of markings are not lenient at all. In fact, the criteria of markings followed by most of the online degree programs are similar to those followed by regular colleges. Many of the online degree holders, when attempting any test for regular institutes or for any job actually perform very well. The ratio of qualifying and passing any job or test among online and regular degree holders is basically the same. So it’s totally a myth that it’s easier in any of the ways. The only advantage which can be considered is that you have the freedom to choose the timings for your classes. Online Education is Antisocial Most of the people who are unaware of the realities of an online educational system and believe that it is for shy or disruptive people. Most people argue with online students that such courses promote an antisocial and home confining lifestyle. Some also say that online students are shy of life outside the comforts of their homes and maybe that’s why they select such an educational system. But what I want to ask is, how come an online world be called antisocial? There is one on one communication going on between teacher and students. Also, groups of students are linked together through discussion and debate forums. The communication circle of online students involves students not only from their country or city but from multiple countries and cities. Such experiences can teach students social and racial acceptance even more than a regular class. There are also some homework and assignments that involve market surveys, sometimes photography or interviews. Online learners are found more interactive because they are holding an experience of online conferencing. There are a number of websites that allow online students to communicate and share their learning with others. You can also participate in competitions offered online. So the idea that online education system is antisocial is not true at all. Less Considered by Recruiters Hiring panels are more interested in an individual`s skills rather than the type or source of applicant's degree. But the fact is that 87% of hiring panels believe that online degrees have equal respect as traditional degrees. 60% disagree that they mark any differential division between online or traditional degree statuses. Whereas 82% of recruiters believe that online education is not easy at all. For jobs that involve online communication and conferencing usually done online, degree holders perform better. Also, online job interviews and Skype meetings are on fingertips of online students. Poor Time Management Skills Due to no fixed timing of classes and facility to alter the timings of lectures people think that online learners cannot manage time as they are too lazy to go and attend classes at any fixed time. Actually, people need to look at the usual routines of traditional college students. Most of the students are lazy to get up from bed for their classes, and a great number of students bunk classes because they feel sleepy or bored during any particular subject or class. Annually at colleges, a number of students are not allowed to sit for exams due to short attendance, some students face penalties or fines due to the habit of coming late to class. In fact, some students even arrive at an examination hall 15 to 20 minutes late. Now take a look at the statistics to resolve the myth, which says that 55% of traditional college students are found to be just lazy as they skip classes because they could not get out of bed. Basically, it’s not a claim to say that traditional degree students are lazy, it’s a fact that usually the lifestyle of all youngsters have a mess like this and it’s not a big issue. You cannot claim that they have poor time management skills or it's just a habit for a limited time or age. Actually, 70% of human resources authorities disagree with the idea that traditional degree holders have better time management skills. Online degree holders possess an average 74% of management skills. Online students are also reliable freelancers as they understand the value of commitments even when the client cannot make a claim. How to get your bachelor’s degree faster?

How to get your bachelor's degree faster?   After graduating from high school, most tend to enter the workforce immediately or make their way to a two or four-year college to receive their Bachelor’s degree. Some end up going to college for even longer to receive their Master’s or PhD. It really depends on the person in question and their preferences and goals. Most people are happy to receive a Bachelor’s in their preferred topic and industry, but even a Bachelor’s degree can be costly and take a lot of time to acquire. If you find yourself losing motivation to complete school, use some of these tips to make the time in school go faster. Plan your work Most students entering college take at least one class they do not require in order to graduate. Taking classes that are completely unrelated to your major can be a wonderful way to break up the monotony in your learning and expand your horizons. However, those looking to acquire their degree, as fast as possible should solely focus on classes required to receive a degree. Avoid any unrelated classes, as they will only bog down your time. Many students will write out an action plan or study plan to keep track of their target goals. Remain in contact with your academic advisor, as often as possible, to keep on track to graduation. Transfer credits If you have previously attended another college, do not let those transfer credits go unused. Many schools will accept your transfer equivalencies where applicable which can significantly reduce the cost of your degree and how long it takes to acquire it. Each school generally has an office or administration dedicated to handling transfer credits and requests. Utilize this service to see how much you can save when attending a new school. Some institutions like Chatfield College even offer a third-year option, where students who already have an associates, can transition to a bachelors program. Skip a minor Many students opt to acquire a minor along with their major. This can be useful in some cases, but most would advise you to skip the minor entirely to acquire your degree in the fastest way possible. Most people will not use their minor once they graduate, it just looks good at the time. Dropping your minor classes could save an entire semester of work. Unless your minor is critical to your field or would bring obvious benefits, avoid it. There are ways to increase the speed at which you acquire a degree. Some students do not pay attention to their options, or do not speak with their academic advisor nearly enough. Let them know your intentions beforehand and see places where you can save extra time and money.   Author: Brooke Chaplan

The importance of education

The importance of education
The importance of education Education is a lifetime process which starts from the birth and ends with the death of a person . Education was originated from the Latin word “educare”, later it became “education”. While in the mid of the 16th century, it was named as “Educate” in English. Education is also assumed as the never-ending process, it is the only thing which will never be reduced while sharing, although it is very important for everyone to learn and get the education. This is the only way through which people can increase their knowledge. Education is also called the process of learning subjects in schools, colleges and universities like Mathematics or Science, etc. It is very important to know that all the advancements nowadays are due to education. As people are being more educated day by day, the advancement and the rise of technology is increasing day by day, this clearly shows that education is the most important element of all the time. Today’s generation will never know the struggle of the past. The only person who is educated is the one who has learned how to learn and change. It is very important to note that no nation can survive without excellence and modern education, no development is possible without education. Living without education is like a human without eyes. There is no big deal to love education because it is the most important part of the past time and it will be the most important thing in the future too. The reasons why people love education is because of these reasons:

Decides the future and the destiny:

Education helps a person to grow well, increases the skills and thought of a person. It makes a person, gentleman and provides him the way through which a person can guide his destiny and makes his future in the sense of every means either positive or negative which could lead him towards the success.

Growth of a nation:

Education helps us to build a civilized nation and helps us to grow. No advancements and the developments are important without education. It produces skilfully trained people, which can make the country more developed. We cannot build a civilized nation without education, literacy is the main object among the nations, which makes them more civilised, with superior means of culture, social and human rights, technology, etc.. This is the reason why, for example China is the most developed country and is most civilized from others nowadays.

Increase in technology:

It helps people build new technologies like mobile phones, telephones, tablets or smart watches, so that they communicate with other, watch televisions, use computers and laptops to share data from one place to another through internet, cars, bikes helicopters and airplanes, or to travel from one place to another. Japan is the most developed country in means of technology and that is because of improvement and increment of education among them, this is the reason why their people love to get educated.

A better life:

Education is very necessary to live a better life, this helps the people to learn and earn more. Studies have shown that by having education a low-income worker can earn more or equal to the high-income worker. This is all because of qualifications and education, this will help you earn more and provide you a better job at the best place. This simply justifies that if you study more you will earn more. Education is the only key to unlock the golden door of freedom.

Spread awareness:

Educated people always get aware of the bad deeds and they will not follow anyone blindly. Not only one stops oneself to follow blindly, but one guides other people too, and makes them aware of the cruel world. One justifies oneself and clears the misconceptions,  also describes the logic behind it. Education also helps to prevent crime rate, it tells us the difference between good and bad. It helps us to get aware and understand the right of other citizens. The objective of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives. To get successful life, to enjoy a better life, to promote peace and brotherhood among humans. We all have to support education, because if we are literate then we have to promote education and help other people to get educated for the improvement, better living and advancement of our society, nation and country. “You are always a student, never a master. You have to keep moving forward.” Author’s bio: Alice Anderson is a professional educator working at Click 2 assignment

Apply psychological principle of information processing in e-learning

Are There Any Principles Of Information Processing?
When most people think of information processing, they think of IT and computing because it is a computing term, however, in the world of psychology, it has another meaning. It is a cognitive psychology term that sees the human mind as the information processor. A person takes in information and there is an output as a result.

Are there any principles of information processing?

No, there are not. It is a function of the body, just like sneezing or daydreaming. However, there are psychological elements that are known as cognitive elements involved with information processing in the mind. Many people compare the process to computers, but the comparison is a little flawed. If you were to compare a mind to a computer, the computer would be a highway full of cars, and your mind would be an ocean full of fish. Apply psychological principle of information processing in e-learning

Mixing cognitive psychology with e-teaching and e-learning

Let’s start with the commonly-held idea that people are creatures of habit. If a student has a habit of ignoring traditional teaching methods because he or she is in the habit of doing so (usually a trait learned in school), then that habit is going to persist. It is up to you as a teacher to understand when this occurs and change your method of teaching to suit. Trying to force students to pay attention is often futile.

What about cognitive psychology and attention?

Selective attention is a person’s ability to ignore other things and concentrate on a single thing. Attention capacity is another way of defining how long a person concentrates on something. Be careful how you use these principles. Many sub-standard teachers will teach a person something and then quit for a while because they do not want to “overload” them with information. This is often a foolish thing to do because people have a very high capacity for learning. If you cover a topic in full, then your students may not understand it all, but you can keep going over it again and again until they do. In addition, you can cover it all first, and then segment the lessons and approach it again in smaller chunks. Test the hypothesis if you wish. If a student seems to be struggling with a simple problem, turn up the heat and make it more difficult. For example, when teaching young children to tell the time, you may use an online tool that has the big and little hands spinning around a clock. Ask the student to stop the hands at a certain time. If they continue to struggle, turn up the speed of the clock. You may find that they actually make faster progress than when the clock was moving slowly. Use the way your students think and learn to engage with them Doing a little research into your own students and finding out how they learn best is obviously going to help you teach more effectively. As a race, we seem to look for patterns, even if no patterns exist. HowStuffWorks created a nice article about how people still believe the Illuminati exists because people look for patterns and connect the dots where there are none to connect. Michael Shermer said we are “Pattern-seeking animals,” meaning we are, “Neurologically hard-wired to seek explanations and put the pieces together – even when there is no connection.” Search and test for the patterns that your learners are using. If you are dedicating a little time and effort into getting into the minds of your learners, you will be a more effective teacher. Dyslexic and autistic people have very different thinking and connecting patterns to other people, which is why many traditional classes seem to fail them.

Learning by copying

We learn by copying from a very early age. There is a theory that smiling is an instinct we are born with, but it is squashed by the fact that babies may be copying what their parents do. They may not smile because they are happy, they may smile because they see their parents doing it and they start to notice that they get more attention if they smile and act cute. Learning by copying

How does this relate to e-teaching and e-learning?

Do not rule out the power of copying. For example, men with guy friends that are good at talking to women will often become better at it themselves. They see how their friends do it, and they learn, both consciously and unconsciously, how to talk to women in an attractive manner. If you want to teach your students how to write better essays, then order a few from Assignment Masters and let your students see how it is done. Have your students write essays on a topic, then order some from the professionals and let the students compare theirs with the professional one. The students are not learning by plagiarism, they are simply seeing how something is done so they may understand and copy the concepts at play. Be wary of parallel processing Some people still claim they are expert multi-taskers, despite the fact that it is widely believed that multitasking is a myth, and that you are simply switching quickly from one task to another. Be wary of parallel processing Our brains are able to parallel process things. For example, you are now breathing while your heart is beating. However, when it comes to attention, we are only capable of serial processing. Students should be dissuaded from multitasking and asked to complete one objective fully before starting the next. In addition, if your lessons include multitasking elements, do as much as you can to lower the amount a student does, and it may increase the quality of their work.   Author: Mary Kleim is an educational specialist. 5 things students hate about online learning degrees

5 Common things students hate about online learning degrees
5 things students hate about online learning degrees  Attitudes toward online learning are generally positive, but this doesn’t mean the concept is perceived as perfect by everyone who has chosen to learn that way. As great as you may feel a course is, there’s always room for improvement. Many students share the same gripes about their online degrees. There’s a lot to love, but there’s also a lot they’d be eager to do without.
  1. Absent teachers

A professor who is notoriously hard to get a hold of can make students feel isolated. Many get the impression that they’ve been thrown to the wolves, expected to figure things out on their own. While online learners generally appreciate their autonomy, they need proper guidance in order to be able to effectively complete their assignments. Professors who only check in periodically aren’t able to provide that instruction, and students are forced to sit around with their questions unanswered. Notoriously absent teachers halt their students’ progress and have a detrimental effect on their motivation and studies. In the end, if students have to figure everything out by themselves, they don’t understand the point of paying for someone to act as a useless figurehead.
  1. Bad customer service

Students on campus have the option to meet with an advisor. Students online have a much harder time dealing with issues that require the assistance of an advisor, because the advisor doesn’t exist. So how do these students get their issues resolved? As it would turn out, many of them feel like they never do. Since many online education programs don’t offer counselling or formal customer service, students have no way to figure out what’s going on or see their problems solved.
  1. Infuriating group assignments

Many online schools use group assignments because they’re cost effective. They’re easier to manage and grade, and they promote teamwork. Since online courses have more lax acceptance criteria, a lot of students feel like their teammates don’t care about their work. Some students feel like they’re pulling everyone else’s weight, and because everyone is sitting somewhere else hiding behind their computer screen, slackers tend to get a free ride. Since lazy students aren’t held accountable, the diligent co-learners feel taken advantage of which is yet another motivation killer.
  1. Inefficient infrastructure

Some students find their experience to be very inconsistent across the online learning environment. What’s the chain of command? Who reports to who? How are technical issues resolved? Why are unresponsive instructors just as prevalent as great instructors? Students feel the structure of some online learning programs falls apart. Because everyone is working remotely and the material is spread around the Internet, they don’t see unity within the administration that shows them one hand knows what the other is doing.
  1. Bad design

Interfaces count for a lot, and students are quick to mention that. Students want their course to have great production value but at the same time be easy to navigate, read, and comprehend. In addition, students hope to receive a full experience that speaks to their personal learning styles. They want visuals, audio, and even videos to demonstrate the material. They want consistency between the material in the courses and the things that they’ll be tested on. Finally, they need access to current information that’s been modernised, instead of content pulled from dated text books and thrown onto the Internet. The majority of students actually report that their overall level of satisfaction with online learning is high. With some improvements, the favourable rating will continue to improve, drawing in new learners and boosting the rating averages even higher.     Author: Monique Craig is an avid blogger and self-learner who enjoys reading self-improvement literature and gaining more business-related experience. 5 Alternative teaching approaches

5 Alternative teaching approaches
5 Alternative teaching approaches There are so many schools today, and all of them use the same approaches when it comes to some important aspects of teaching. Some schools opt for alternative approaches which bring fantastic results. Here are 5 interesting teaching approaches private schools might want to switch to. Harkness Harkness is a teaching method which is not based on a specific curriculum, but rather on a large oval table. This approach was developed by Edward Harkness, an oil magnate and a philanthropist. What makes this approach special is that all of the students sit at the table together with their teacher and discuss a variety of topics. Every students can give his opinion on topic and then his opinion is discussed. Harkness approach offers an alternative to a traditional classroom setup where a teacher lectures in front of a blackboard while all the students are seated at their desks. Sudbury Sudbury approach gets its name from the Sudbury Valley School in Framingham, Massachusetts. This is a school that operates under tenets of democracy and individuality. Both of these principles have not appeared in other in other approaches. Sudbury approach encourages students to design a curriculum, as well as to choose whether they are going to be evaluated. Students get a vote in any important matters, such as how should the school invest money and whether hew staff should be hired. All other students and staff members get a vote which counts equally. Reggio Emilia Loris Malaguzzi developed this approach soon after World War 2 and named it after his hometown in Italy. It is an approach developed specifically for the children between the ages of 3 and 6. The approach is based on children being surrounded by self-guided learning environment. Malaguzzi claimed that we do not have to give children ready-made answers, but only guide them towards the right ones. In this approach, there is no curriculum and classrooms are designed to look and feel more like home. Art teachers also play an important role in Reggio Emilia approach as art is one of the things this approach focuses on. Steiner/Waldorf Austrian philosopher and scientist Rudolf Steiner developed this approach influenced by Goethe and Jean Piaget. The approach is based on the thesis that teaching should be focused on the “whole child”, meaning that teaching should concentrate on students’ body, soul, and spirit. His first Waldorf School was founded in 1919 in Stuttgart. The curriculum lasted 12 years and was aimed at preparing children for life. According to this approach, children should not be taught academic material until the age of 7. Before they reach this age, they should only be encouraged to interact with environment and socialize. In the last 20 years, the approach remained unchanged and is still being used. Montessori In the approach developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, teaching is based on the philosophy that children should be encouraged to learn in their own ways. Montessori approach encourages individuality and independence, meaning that teachers design the curriculum according to the students’ progress and previous knowledge. Classrooms in the schools that use this approach are “child-centric”. They are full of hands-on material that can help children to acquire new information. Students are encouraged to interact with each other and to use their own pace when learning. More and more schools opt for the Montessori approach and they have been reporting positive results. All of these programs offer some alternative ways to pass knowledge to the children. It is up to schools to choose the one that will suit them best. Parents are advised to learn which approach is being used before signing their children up in a school and do some research on it.   Author: Diana Smith

Also, there are some teachers who are stuck with their age old methods of teaching; now that is not consistent, but solely stubborn behavior. Also, since it is the world of technology, don’t be hesitant to add technological tools to your academic curriculum. Invest in your teachers

The education is the foundation of the nation. We have heard this so many time, but not really paid attention that much. Why does it matter? For one if you do not invest in the educators of the future generations, then the future might turn out to be as prosperous as one’s country might want. Further on, if you have teacher, who have attended the last training with the end of their studies, then we have serious concern for our children’s gaining of knowledge. Why is this the case? The education is vivid and life matter, that needs to be followed and constantly updated when having in mind the new media and technology trends. This is one of the reasons why the teachers of our children should have books that are of more recent date, this is why the latest in all fields of learning should be present in our children’s classes. Teachers’ workload and school financial pressures pose challenges for professional learning in schools, but if the country cannot afford to invest in the teachers, then it indirectly does not invest in its future development. If teachers do their best at helping learners towards the best possible outcomes, then they need to be equipped with the best accessible tools, skills and experience to do so, have the knowledge that they are valued and at the same time be respected enough. Why are traditional forms of professional development not working? How can we find a sustainable way to provide for teachers development while addressing the budget and time constraints schools have on them currently? Have a look at the infographic and share your comments with us. Can you afford not to invest in your teachers? Infographic Find more education infographics on e-Learning Infographics

Technology requirements for TESOL online courses

Technology Requirements for TESOL Online Courses
Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages,   Teaching English to foreigners who don’t speak it as a first language is increasingly gaining momentum around the world. Chinese and Indian parents are pushing for better quality English teachers to teach their kids. ESL or English as a Second Language, has become a sought after asset in the modern globalised economy. It comes as no surprise then, that there is a professional course aspiring teachers can take to prove their English proficiency and to then travel abroad to teach in countries with adequate demand. TESOL or Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, is a professional organisation that helps such teachers kickstart their career. Although the organisation was founded in the United States, the course is offered online for anyone who wants to sign up. There are, of course, some basic requirements each candidate must meet before they can get started with the TESOL certification online. Here is what you need:
  • Professional Requirements
A frequently asked question is whether you need any prior experience teaching English to be able to enter the course. For an online certification, this is not the case. You will need an undergraduate degree with a 2:1 or international equivalent in any subject that could be considered relevant to teaching English. However, alternative qualifications will also be considered.
  • TESOL Focus Courses
Usually, TESOL courses consist of 150 hours of training and this can all be provided online. The course focuses on second language teaching and learning, grammar, pronunciation, discourse analysis, second language acquisition, classroom management, classroom research, classroom-based evaluation, second language curriculum development, research methods in language learning and research portfolio.
  • Technology in Education
The TESOL organisation has a well defined framework for the ways technology can be sued in education. The organisation believes that technology will never be fully sufficient to replace teachers altogether, but will in fact help teachers teach better and more effectively. The standards are outlined in the handbook and push for deep integration of technology into everyday classroom activities since it can help promote not just language skills but also tech savvy. The framework pushes for integration to ensure the teacher is sufficiently aided in the classroom and the students learn real-life skills. English must be used online and not just while reading or writing, as per the organization.
  • Technology Integration
Like with other parts of our lives, technology has the potential to transform the way we learn. Bloomberg recently reported on the need for coding lessons and how Chinese parents were preparing their kids for a future where coding and English language skills will be paramount. The need for tech in the classroom is evident from the way students have adopted consumer tech in their day to day activities. The TESOL organisation understands this need and has made attempts to equip teachers and candidates with the tools needed to deal with student demands in the modern classroom and help them develop the skills to the best of their ability. About the author: Sunny Popali is working for UNI-Prep Institute. UNI-Prep is an institute offering courses in TESOL teacher training, business and management. Courses are offered online and in-class.

21-st century teaching in Macedonian primary schools

Dpbri-Jovevski-teaching
21-st century teaching in Macedonian primary schools This interview is conveyed with Dobri Joveski, Primary school teacher for 16 years, who is a leading utilizer of the new technologies in education in the Republic of Macedonia When did you begin using the social media for educational purposes? The grounds for communication among all parties involved in the creation and participation in the education-upbringing process is the e-mail. I would like to emphasize its role, since apart from being a personal communication among two entities, it offers an opportunity to exchange information and to create among limitless number of users. The initial idea for communication and presentation of the educative content and the project activities was my participation in the creation of the blogs through www.bloger.com, ThinkQuest, E-twinning, Edmodo, Facebook, Skype, YouTube, Partners in learning, as well as educative and social portals that I use in my every day work. The social media in educative purposes has become our common practice. The necessity of following the news, has become part of the educative content for the teachers. This necessity lead to creating a new community of teachers that exchanges its good education practice in teaching through webinars. In the Republic of Macedonia, this type of education has been ongoing for two years and it comes as a result from the cooperation between Microsoft-Partners in learning and the good practices shared by the teachers in Croatia. What are your future plans in expanding the activities? Organizing of the webinars as a successful project activity will continue and it will be expanded with the participation of other interested teachers that are following the innovations in the education on a global level. If pre-conditions for this type of training are created, it can be used by the diaspora students, for the purpose of introducing the traditional and the cultural values of the entities that live in the Republic of Macedonia. Through the cooperation with the relevant institutions on a state level, primarily Ministry for Education and Science,  Ministry of Information Society and Administration, Directorate for education development and State education inspectorate, the future plans are in the direction of expanding the activities of webinar development in Macedonia, i.e. online trainings for professional training of the teachers. How do you experience the current rise of using the Internet in educational purposes? The utilization of the IT communication in the education of children is no longer a matter of choice, but a necessity. This is the way through which the children’s potential is stimulated, enabling them enriched intellectual development. The Internet offers limitless possibilities in gaining ideas to create the class content for all school subjects, being an unquenchable source of knowledge and teaching resources. With the correct directing and awareness of safe utilization, the Internet educational process is enriched with a valuable source of exploring and teaching, enabling communication on all levels, among all entities in the education-upbringing process. What would you like to recommend to your colleagues in the utilization of the interactive tools and the new technologies in education? If the teachers make an analysis and evaluation of their own work in education, they would conclude that the utilization of the information communication technologies and the interactive online tools is becoming a necessity and an advantage in the presenting of the educational content. In this way, the teaching and the tutoring is becoming a pleasure, a natural process, efficient and effective training of the teachers and the pupils in their future challenges. About :Dobri Joveski, Primary school teacher Upon graduation, he was working in rural areas in mixed classes, meanwhile participating in trainings organised by Step by step, With reading and writing towards critical thinking, trainings organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Macedonia-Development of the democracy and the children’s right, implementing the teaching techniques in practice.  An important step in his professional development is the participation in the initial trainings for computer learning introduction via e-school. He was an educator and master trainer for the teachers in several regional schools, where he lectured about the computer and Internet utilization in the education process, through MS Windows, Linux, i.e. Edubuntu. He is a primary school teacher for 16 years. By being an active utilizer of the IT in his every day life, as well as through the communication and the exchange of the experiences of the teachers in Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Bulgaria and wider, as well as through the fruitful cooperation with Microsoft Partners in learning on numerous school projects Dobri has reached recognised results on global level. The professional development of the teachers, the exchange of the experiences and the proven school practice were used in the organising of the webinars through Microsoft Live Meeting и Microsoft Lync in which he participated with much enthusiasm. Constantly upgrading the knowledge on IT communication content, makes him transfer the gained skills to the pupils and develop professionally, all contributing to become a teacher of the 21st century.

How to choose a high quality online course?

questionmark Online education is attracting more and more attention worldwide due to its flexibility and availability. Nowadays, major institutions proudly offer a variety of courses ranging from technology to administration. Since the competition is huge, it’s very easy to get lost going through numerous offers. How do you make sure you choose a high quality course that’s just right for you? We’ve put together tips that will help you make the right decision. State your goal Before you even start looking at endless lists of courses, you need to answer one simple question – what is it that you really want to achieve? Do you want to finally land the promotion you’ve been waiting for? Or maybe you want to build new skills or just broaden your horizons? Whatever reasons you have, you need to set a clear goal, so that you are not disappointed at the end of the course. High quality course providers offer free advice from admission counselors, so if you are having a hard time deciding, just write an e-mail or chat online with a trained career adviser. Carefully read the syllabus Every course provider is obliged to publish a syllabus containing the topics of consecutive classes together with detailed descriptions of topics covered during each class. Read it carefully and assess if the presented material meets your expectations and will help you reach your goal. Find out how many classes the course covers and remember that if the syllabus doesn’t seem to satisfy your educational needs, neither will the course itself. Check out the institution After you’ve decided on a specific course, it is advised to research the institution. Check if your course provider has been accredited by a respected agency. Also, look up online reviews and opinions, which will help you determine if the institution is trustworthy. Value for money Let’s talk about money now. You need to make sure that admission costs won’t hinder your finances more than expected. Inquire about all costs of the course, but also research the prices of additional materials. Check if you will have to buy your own textbooks,or if they will be provided by the institution. Get the facts straight Last, but not least, contact the course provider to inquire about the information flow and feedback. Find out what technology is necessary to go through the course without any trouble. It is important to know how the course provider will distribute necessary materials. You should be aware that during the course you might be asked to submit papers or take part in online discussions. You may need to take weekly quizzes or midterm tests as well, so find out how the assignments will be distributed and then submitted. It’s no secret that choosing a high quality online course and collecting all necessary information is crucial when going for distance education, but we hope that with these tips you will be able to make the right decision more easily. There are also many other excellent benefits to online education courses, which are explored in more detail below. Continue reading “Online education – your best option”
