6 Signs that it’s time to go back to school

Sometimes you don’t know the value of an education until you’ve been in the workforce for a while.

There are a lot of people that are dissatisfied with their profession, but they can’t quite pinpoint the reason. It’s possible that you are feeling the itch to go back and get your next degree (or finish your first one).

Here are six signs that it might be time for you to go back to school:

You’ve reached your earning potential
If you’ve been in the workforce for a while, you may be experiencing the higher end of your earning potential in your employment. If you still have a way to go before retirement, going back to school and earning a degree that has higher income potential can be a good strategic move.

More campuses in more places
Over the last decade, there has been a huge increase in satellite campuses of major colleges and universities popping up in smaller communities. Where attending college may not have been a geographic possibility for some, now a degree is more tangible.

Online education has advanced.
It’s hard not to continue your education when you can attend class at home. Schools like the University of Denver at daniels.du.edu and many other major universities make college more accessible by offering online courses and degree programs.

You’re bored
If you are utterly bored with your job on a day to day basis and are yearning for a challenge, or simply a change of pace, going back to school can fill that need. There are many emerging fields that are ready for people that have workforce experience!

There are tax advantages
If you are a student, there can be some great tax advantages. Talk to your financial or tax advisor to find out what tax savings you can get by going back to school.

Your job security is in danger
Perhaps your current occupation is being quickly outsourced or downsized. Some professions can be replaced with updated technologies, or completely eliminated in a bad economy. If you are seeing a negative forecast on the horizon, making a preemptive strike and getting the training you need may be a great idea.

Remember that education is a great tool to have regardless of how you use it, and you owe it to yourself to have multiple employment options and to do all within your power to be happy in your chosen field.
