How to get a great internship?

Given the current state of the job market, many college students are growing more and more concerned about their job prospective when they graduate. A great way to not only explore careers, but to get your foot in the door with your dream company is through internships. They are an incredible learning experience and often help you land that full-time offer by the time fall rolls around.

Where do I start?

The problem with internship-seeking is many students don’t know where to start. Career centers are a good place to start and are found on most (almost all) college campuses. Stop by your career development center and have a counselor guide you through the different options that are available for students at your school. There are probably many programs that you can apply to that you’ve never heard of and the counselors are there for a reason! Maybe you’ll come across an opportunity that you’ve never heard of!

Are you online education person?

We live in the information age, growing accustomed to information at the speed of light that the prospect of not having immediate access to countless numbers of facts and figures with a single click of a few buttons for many of us is simply disconcerting. For these reasons, it only makes sense that there are many people around the world that are embracing the idea of online learning and educational opportunities, with every ounce of enthusiasm they can muster.

You have to aware that there are equal numbers of people around the world who are trying desperately to hold on to traditional methods of dealing with certain things. Some people actually still play solitaire with a real deck of playing cards, not on screen. For people who feel that the information age has left them behind to some degree, the chances are quite good that online learning may not be the best available option.

If you want to become a good student, it is important to have confidence in yourself as a learner, it is important to believe that you actually like learning, and that you really enjoy the topic you are studying.

When you picture yourself learning poorly, you actually program your mind for more learning failures – this is what you expect, so it becomes more likely that you will achieve it.

Trainers and assessors need to be trained themselves before going on to assess others. In Australia, all trainers hence must undergo a program called TAE40110 –certificate IV in Training and Assessment. There are ten parts to this program, seven of which are compulsory. The trainer (who incidentally becomes the student) learns how to plan assessment activities and guidelines, how to plan and organise group learning and how to plan and deliver learning in the work place.
