Online education success: test early and often

 

In the last couple of years the number of online educational offerings is increasing, but with their rapid rise a critical question has rised: “Can such “virtual” classes cut through the maze of distractions – such as email, the Internet, and television – that face students sitting at their computers?”

Harvard researchers on this topic have concluded that the solution to this issue is to test students early and often.

It is very unlikely that anyone prefers exams to classes, but let’s face it we need to pass the exams if you want to earn your degree!!
Exams are stressful, a lot of work and all-in-all a fact of life. When people leave school after 12, 13, 14 years of school, they are often led into a false sense of security that their lives will be free from study and exams for ever.

The bottom line is that no matter what you do, in this day and age you are always going to be in a situation where you will have to do some sort of exam: whether it is to get your license to drive a car, to get a promotion at work or to get a University degree … You are always going to be faced with having to do some sort of exam.

Distance learning – distance education … How far away?

We live in an age where we e-mail a person instead of having a phone call, and we phone when we should speak in person. Hiding behind technology is an easy excuse, what is difficult for many to know in what medium is the most appropriate to communicate in.

On-line has become the rage in many organizations and academic institutions. The savings to a company in travel and per diem are compelling and one of the biggest edge.

Distance education is hot, available and backed because of its potential for savings, and to educate a greater number that might not have the opportunity, because of distance and schedule.
