While it may not be suitable for everyone, online courses, now commonly referred to as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), are becoming an increasingly popular option for college students. However, in such classes, students will face a unique set of challenges, including little interaction with others, keeping motivated, and peer grading. For those of you new to the subject, peer grading, potentially one of the most controversial topics among online education professionals, is when students in online courses evaluate work by other people in the same course.

We have seen this coming for a little while now. We have the Internet in all its glory, and now it’s time to start using it for good. With all kinds of people connecting from every corner of the globe, we can now teach courses online that anyone with an Internet connection can enroll in, in places from Tibet to Australia to Alaska, on subjects from Calculus to Mandarin to Chemistry. Free open educational source – edX Platform

Stanford University and edX, the non-profit online learning enterprise founded by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), announced their collaboration to advance the development of edX’s open source learning platform and provide free and open online learning tools for institutions around the world.
