How do MOOCs work?

The main characteristics of the MOOC can be categorized in the following manner: – informal setting learning via Internet for free or low fees – all materials presented can be shared by everyone, whenever needed – variety of assignments to be chosen from all professional disciplines – no enrollment needed, self-discipline is a key to successful learning – no language barriers considering the online translation tools – development of digital skills and networking. MOOCs are present at edX, the nonprofit start-up from Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that recorded 370,000 students its first official courses this fall.

Coursera has reached more than 1.7 million and is less than 2 years in use MOOCs have been online for a few years as collaborative technical learning events, but this is the year when everyone wants in. Top universities are partnering with Coursera at a furious pace. It now offers courses from 33 of the biggest names in post-secondary education, including Princeton, Brown, Columbia and Duke. Google unleashed a MOOC-building online tool, and Stanford unveiled Class2Go with two courses.

Traditional online courses can charge tuition, carry credit and limit enrollment to a few dozen to ensure interaction with instructors, whereas MOOCs  are generally free, credit-less, solid and massive. Anyone with an Internet connection can enroll and the faculty can’t possibly respond to students’ individually. Classmates may count on one another in study groups organized in their towns, in online forums or for grading work.

Which academy is the right academy?

How many students do you know who have a clear idea about what their future holds?- In my experience, very few.

With this in mind, selecting a college or university is, certainly an important decision and there are many factors to take into consideration.

Such a choice has to be fully thought-through. Choosing which University, and of course the right program can become, for many people, a great source of anxiety. For some it can take days to evaluate a list of the pros and cons, but for others, the choice becomes a kind of lottery. Frequently, the choice is deduced from randomness over reason, and it all ends with signing up for a faculty without any kind of pondering at all.

Online education resources for free

In this increasingly ”connected world”, obtaining free education online is actually a relatively simple thing to do.

Library
If you do not have Internet at home, you can go to your local library and use one of their freely available computers.

The best online college offer free classes, and you can make use of the top gratis audio book and podcast resources. Most of those are available in the library, though strict time limits of computer usage time, that could be used to go through some of the lessons available online.

In-House Executive MBA, most convenient online education degrees

Online MBA programs for senior executives through traditional university is aimed for those who do not wish to take a break from their careers and enroll full time.

The advantage of an Executive MBA program is that working ADULTS can use prior business experience toward their degree.  Online programs traditionally do not accept past experiences as credit toward completion, with a few exceptions. E-MBA programs used to be the only way working executives could obtain MBA without full time enrolment.
