The development of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) has led to questions about control of intellectual property. Instructional materials have become freely available on the web and are easily accessible by the general public, ownership rights have become more disputable than even before.

Online adult education spectrum

By definition adult education involves the training and development of adult individuals in certain vocations or subjects for a variety of reasons. Adult education is not the same as the traditional education of young individuals, since the methods that are employed in capitalization on the accumulated knowledge and life experience of the adult individual are different.

Because of these factors, adults can use what they have learned during their life, add depth to their educational experience, and have a better understanding of how to apply it to their current life situations. Though often done at the workplace as training and development, or in a classroom setting for continuing education or basic education, the adult education is becoming more and more common to see enrollment in online adult education programs.

The MOOC Experience

Traditional forms of education have been rather busy exchanging barbs with the alternative ones. Online courses distance learning and MOOCs concepts which were introduced to augment certain aspects of education had become subject to attack.

This scene is not even remotely surprising; while such alternative modes were designed to accommodate certain aspects, the probability that such coverage will later expand to all aspects pose a threat. In other words, MOOCs – in their premature state – are already envisioned to totally replace traditional forms.

This heated exchange had somehow aroused a kind of curiosity among observers. In the learner’s perspective, would the MOOCs’ derived experience make any significant difference? Interestingly, is that difference valuable to the learner?

The company consists of a team of computer scientists, designers, and language specialists creating tools to empower language learners-all for free. Really, there are language learning websites claiming to be free, when in fact they are only free to be used for a limited time. Duolingo’s language learning tools are completely free, because while you are learning you are also creating valuable translations for the world.
