Summer ideas for college students

So you have finished up your spring classes and are taking a break from your online college courses and are wondering what to do. The last thing you want to do is waste your time. Summer presents a unique opportunity for you to explore your interest and invest in your life. Here are some ideas.

Go on a road trip

Pick a fun place to go and head off in that direction. Ideally a place where you have a friend you can visit and stay with. This will help save you money.  If you love nature go to the mountains or the beach. If you love the city life then go somewhere cool with a good night life. Historical places and museums are another great option, especially for the liberal arts types. Take a friend or two along with you and have fun. Don’t forget to pack those ever important road trip snacks and maybe even make a road trip play list to sing along to as you go.  Whatever you end up doing, you’ll be glad you did.

Explore your home town

You may think you have done it all in the city you live in, but growing up there means there are probably local things you haven’t seen. Think of it this way. How many times have you said to yourself “oh, I will get around to seeing such and such sometime” and then you never get around to it? Act like a tourist. Get a travel guide to your city and look for historic places, fun things to do and museums you have never been to, then go see them. Another good option is checking out local events like Shakespeare in the Park, music festivals or even cultural events. You could end up with some fun stories to tell.

Challenge your fears

Ever wanted to secretly do something but been afraid to try? This is your summer to do it! Bungee jumping, sky diving or snorkeling are just a few of the options you can explore. Asking a girl out is another great fear to overcome as well. The key is to don’t do it alone. Find a buddy or a group to go together and push each other to do so (except maybe the asking out part.) You’ll be glad you did.

Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to spend your summer and it can be in several different ways. For one, if there is a cause you are passionate about then help them out! Work with the homeless, animal rescue shelters, children at risk or help save the environment. There are so many different options and you will find it to be very rewarding. The other is volunteer in something that interests you and may help a future career. If you like writing volunteer at a newspaper or magazine, if you like history volunteer at a museum, but the important thing is use this time to network like crazy, it can pay off in the long run.

How you spend your summer is up to you but don’t waste it. You may even want to take an online college course at school such as www.trident.edu/bachelors-degrees.
