How can a large online education provider increase its resources even more, you might wonder?

Well, the answer came on the 8 May 2013 when Chegg, the student hub, announced a new strategic partnership with Coursera, the leading massive open online course (MOOC) platform, that will provide digital content, like eTextbooks and other supplemental tools to students taking Coursera courses online.

This collaboration will provide the students an improved access to a more informative learning experience, enriching their studies and making their educational experiences better.

In collaboration with Cengage Learning, Macmillan Higher Education, Oxford University Press, SAGE and Wiley, the digital content delivered by Chegg will give the students access to a more comprehensive library of digital learning content.

In the past the professors offering courses on Coursera could only require supplemental content found freely on the web, but now through this partnership, they can work with top publishers to expand required content offerings at no cost to the student.

Chegg’s eReader, will enable some Coursera courses to include free access to learning materials that are offered for the duration of the course.

After this the students will have the option to purchase the full eTextbook edition for continued personal learning.

Access to these materials will enable students to engage on a deeper level with the curriculum, positively impacting learning outcomes.

Dan Rosensweig, President and CEO of Chegg stated: “Students’ needs are evolving, so it’s important that they continue to learn in and out of the classroom. It’s vital that we put students first. Digital courses allow the most sought-after classes, taught by the most knowledgeable educators to be accessible, even worldwide, helping students finish college quicker and with less debt. At Chegg, we are thrilled to partner with Coursera and publishers to expand and adapt our digital offerings – from textbooks to supplemental content – to enhance the way students are learning today.”

Daphne Koller, Co-founder of Coursera adds: “We recognize the importance of forging partnerships with other stakeholders in the education space in order to help students overcome barriers and evolve the way they access education. Our collaboration with Chegg and top publishers allows us to give Coursera students access to the reading material that is such an important aspect of many educational experiences, supporting our goal of learning without limits.”

Chegg is the trusted partner of top publishers since the company was founded in 2007. This strategic partnership between Chegg, Coursera and publishers Cengage Learning, Macmillan Higher Education, Oxford University Press, SAGE and Wiley will help in bringing recognized, licensed educational content to online learning.

In April 2012 when Coursera was launched, the company has registered more than 3 million students, and is seeing approximately 1.45 million course enrollments per month. Students increasingly turn to learning via MOOCs, and this is why the partnership with Chegg will provide publishers with access to a new global and digital student population.

Michael Hansen, Chief Executive Officer, Cengage Learning stated: “We embrace the rise of digital learning in higher education, and we are pleased to be a part of newly developing educational platforms that learners globally are rapidly adopting. This strategic partnership will equip students with highest quality educational content to help them through their educational journey and will also help publishers to better understand how students use digital materials to inform future product developmen.”
