Being a good Project manager means that you will have a good job and that people will recruit you and ask you to come and work for them. Having a good Project Manager means that you will have the job done in the most effective and the most satisfying way. Therefore, you need to be ready for such challenges and being ready means that you need to have these traits and things about you.

General leadership skills

In order to be able to organize and see the project to its end, a project manager needs to be a good leader and have all the traits of a good leader. These include the team building skills, the ability to delegate tasks, to keep the eyes on the goal while making sure that all the details about the process are running smoothly and that people are giving their best while being satisfied. Good leader needs to have authority and needs to make sure that the team is gathered and running.

Certain personal traits

Certain personal traits are important for a Project Manager, as they are important for a leader as well. Some of them are integrity, honesty, enthusiasm, accountability, flexibility and excellent communicative skills. These skills include the abilities to listen carefully and with respect, to be able to communicate ideas, facts and emotions and to be able to stay calm in stressful situations.

With the good people skills and personal traits, you will have to make sure that you have all the right connections. Management is challenging as it is, but some things can be done much more easily if you know the right people to take care of the job. Good connections mean that the project you are working on will get all the proper attention. Also, good connections mean that you will be considered for more projects than a person without the connections would.

Enough time

It is very easy to overestimate the time you have on your hands and you try to run more projects at the same time. That is a mistake that is easily made, because if you have an excellent organization and you have amazing plans, it should run smoothly. However, that rarely happens in the real world, and that is why a Project Manager is needed in the first place. Therefore, when you consider undertaking one more project, make sure that you have enough time to do it, as doing a sloppy job will give you a very bad reputation and that is one thing you cannot afford.

It seems like being a good project manager takes a lot of work and takes a certain kind of person. That is entirely true. However, once you build yourself as an excellent professional and you build your career, you will be highly employable and you will not have any problems finding proper jobs. Moreover, all projects are different and require a lot of work. This means that you will never be bored and there will always be new things to learn for you.
