On Friday, 30 November 2012, Jeremy Johnson, President of undergraduate programs for 2U Inc., will be the guest speaker for the Academic Learning Community’s next Online Interactive Education series. “2U and Online Courses for Credit” will begin at 15:30 and will last for 90 minutes in the Jones Room of the Woodruff Library.

2U Inc. leads, coordinates and partners with higher education institutions to enable online degree programs to students worldwide.

Johnson, who will speak via 2U’s virtual classroom also used by the students in the online program, is part of 2U’s founding team. 2U Inc. joined with Emory and a consortium of leading universities to launch Semester Online, a new online education program that will offer rigorous, for-credit undergraduate courses taught by some of the nation’s top educators.

The partnership is expected to increase scholarship opportunities for Emory students and will provide flexibility in managing their personal and academic lives. New collaborative teaching opportunities among faculty at participating universities will be introduced with enriched diversity of classroom discourse.

Semester Online charges tuition, has a selective admissions process, and will offer for-credit courses presented in a real-time interactive classroom.

This is the last seminar in the four-session Academic Learning Community on Online Interactive Education at Emory. Existing online and evolving scholarship technologies, third-party platform providers, technologies available to Emory faculty, and the broader implications of online learning will be present in the future MOOC’s. Academic Learning Communities will be hosted by Emory’s Center for Faculty Development and Excellence.
