How to know when to quit your current job?

The feeling of excitement when you get a job equals only the sense of dissatisfaction felt by people who start hating their job. Just like in a love relationship, everything you used to love now seems annoying. But how to know for sure that you have served your time at your current job and move on with your career?

Indifferent about your company

Losing interest for a job is a completely normal thing. When an employee realizes that their personal goals differ from their company’s goals, they cannot have the same drive and ambition to keep on working in such an environment. Feeling indifferent about your work tasks and the company in general can cause a feeling of guilt, as well. You get paid for a job that you do not do properly. This is why it is important to leave your job before it leads to severe psychological problems.

Your dreams are somewhere else

According to the results of a study published by the Washington Post, only 13 percent of workers like their jobs, globally speaking. The rest of the crew goes to work because it simply pays the bills. Many people think they will get used to a job they do not like. However, if your dreams are somewhere else, you can try to force yourself to start loving that job, but it simply won’t happen. Everybody who considers themselves part of those 87 percent of workers that do not like their jobs should resign and start a business of their own. Today freelancers of all kinds pursue successful independent careers in different fields. If more people stop doing their boring and mundane jobs, more workers will be happy and satisfied with their lives.

Experiencing humiliation and abuse

It is much easier to quit if you honestly despise your job. However, things are not black and white when your work conditions are great and the job itself is inspiring, but the environment is cruel. The worst thing that can happen to a creative and original worker is being suppressed by envious colleagues and a toxic boss. Even in large corporations there are often cliques within departments. Those of you who do not fit into such groups will be subjected to verbal abuse and humiliation. If you are in such a situation, do not hesitate to report the case to company’s CEOs and the authorities. However, if there is no feedback on your complaints, you should leave that job.

No professional development

What often happens when it comes to job-related difficulties is that people are enthusiastic when they start working, but become disappointed if their company does not invest in their development. Modern businesses have to adapt their policies to the fast-changing business world. Moreover, they need to prepare their employees for new challenges and different technological innovations. When you realize that your colleagues from other companies attend business conferences and courses and you have been only stalling, it has to make you feel dissatisfied. To change the situation, you need to try to convince your manager to pay your business courses. Of course, make a plan and prepare a presentation that will show them why a specific course will be valuable for the business and for your own development. Being repeatedly rejected should lead to only one thing – pack your things and quit.

Even when you are completely sure that you have no future at your current job, it is still hard to leave it. The fear of the unknown is usually stronger than the feeling of discontentment. But try gradually to prepare yourself for quitting, by doing something on the side. It will make the final cut less painful and, what is more, your existence will not be threatened.
