6 jobs you’ll have while at college

Going to college and getting an education can take a lot of energy and time. Not to mention, going to a good college can result in debt for upwards of $50,000 or more. For those that put themselves through college, it can be a very daunting and scary moment for their finances. However, rather than just stare at an overwhelming amount, many college students decide to get jobs. Below a list of the six jobs most college students will work and what you can expect with each.

Cook
The food industry is often a great place for students to get their first jobs. While the work can be very hard and tiresome, restaurants and diners offer decent wages to young college students. This job will take several hours out of your day, and it can also cause a lot of stress.
Cooking is fast paced work that will require you to keep cool under extreme conditions. If you find yourself in this job, just remember everything is temporary. Being a cook can actually be a respected position for getting into culinary arts and will teach you a lot of life lessons you can use forever.

Waiter or Waitress
This is another job found in the food industry, and it can actually pay better than a cook in some places. However, you will have to deal with hundreds of people on a daily basis. The trick to this job is keeping a level head and a pleasant attitude. You can’t let little things get to you, or this one can quickly turn into a nightmare. Working in tips is a great way to save money for paying off that massive college debt.

Garbage Removal
Believe it or not, your local garbage man makes a pretty decent living, and a bright college student can get this job as well. There are a few short courses you must take in order to get this position, but it’s not that difficult. Also, working in a company that provides hazardous waste removal will garner you even higher wages. This job will build a strong work ethic, and you will be able to use it in your future career. This every day interaction will help you develop better people skills and can give you a good start in any future career.

Massage Therapist
Some companies require their masseuses to have certifications in Swedish techniques, but others do not. This job starts at nearly $22 an hour, and it can help a college student pay off their debts rather quickly. It is also pretty flexible in most places so you can work out your appointments around a school schedule pretty easily.

Gas Station Attendant
One of the most common jobs for college students is a gas station attendant. This job will require students to work in the elements, and it can be a drag to get up and go to work every day. However, it will develop a strong mind and a willingness to do whatever it takes to earn money. Your future career will be amazing compared to this job.
