The latest online sexual education study of a group of 138 students in IX grade were interviewed for a survey, that was conveyed by the University of Toronto, University of Ottawa, Yale University and colleagues in South America regarding the one semester-long course affiliated with Planned Parenthood International.

The program is called Profamilia, and it consisted of students working through interactive modules and quizzes on a variety of sexual health topics. Students were allowed to ask help from a tutor provided by the Profamilia program, have received all needed materials on the topic and were able to exchange their views. The results from the online sexual education course showed that students use more condoms, have lower rates of sexually transmitted infections and have a better understanding of the consequences of sexual relationships.

During the study announced at Education News (Perfect medium for sex-ed) the experts have established that the baseline behavior among the IX graders have positively changed. By the end of the research, 10 percent of the students taking at the online sexual education class have used more condoms and there was a decrease in the number of reported sexually transmitted infections. The online program for sexual education has proved successful, because of the embarrassing nature of the topic for the students who were feeling more confident to ask questions online, instead of discussing the topics with the actual lectures and fellow students.

When there is no pressure of learning in front of the peers, students focus on the material and ask questions without feeling awkward. This has helped them to modify their sexual behavior, to improve their knowledge in the relevant issues and the likelihood of passing the knowledge from the online courses – to their friends, significantly rises.

There is no doubt that sexual education is important in today’s society because teenagers are not receiving accurate information. This type of free online courses not only that increases the awareness, but also enables students to be more free and exchange their views in an unrestrained manner.

Unfortunately, most young people are not getting medically accurate, age-appropriate sexual education to prepare themselves for this important and potentially life-altering decision. Many adolescents’ “abstinence only until marriage” programs refuse to answer specific questions about birth control or focus only on failure rates of condoms and birth control, rather than equip young people with the skills to use them, as effectively as possible.
